Momos are the ultimate comfort street food that’s loved across Asia and beyond. These soft, steamed dumplings filled with spiced vegetables and wrapped in a delicate dough are not only delicious but also easy to make at home. Whether you’re hosting friends or craving something warm and hearty, homemade vegetable momos are a perfect choice. Serve them with tangy tomato chutney or spicy sesame sauce for an irresistible treat.

Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- Warm water (as needed)
For the Filling:
- 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 1 cup grated carrots
- ½ cup finely chopped spring onions (green parts only)
- ¼ cup finely chopped capsicum (bell pepper)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp chili flakes (optional)
- ½ tsp black pepper powder
- 1 tsp sesame oil (or any cooking oil)
- Salt to taste
For Serving (Optional):
- Tomato chutney or dipping sauce
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Add oil and gradually add warm water while kneading into a smooth, elastic dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes. - Make the Filling:
In a large bowl, combine all the chopped veggies. Add minced garlic, ginger paste, soy sauce, chili flakes, black pepper, sesame oil, and salt. Mix well and set aside. - Roll Out the Dough:
Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. Roll each into a thin circular wrapper, about 3–4 inches in diameter. Dust with flour if needed. - Stuff and Fold:
Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each wrapper. Fold the edges to form a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges together and create pleats around the top for the classic momo look. - Steam the Momos:
Line a steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves. Place the momos with space between each. Steam over medium heat for 10–12 minutes until the dough is cooked through and slightly translucent. - Serve Hot:
Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Pro Tips:
- You can freeze uncooked momos on a tray and store them in a ziplock bag for later.
- Try chicken or paneer instead of veggies for non-vegetarian or protein-rich versions.
- For extra flavor, add a few drops of sesame oil or toasted sesame seeds on top.
