These Potatoes Taste Better Than Meat! A Crispy & Flavorful Snack Ready in 10 Minutes

This incredibly tasty potato snack proves that sometimes vegetables can be even more satisfying than meat! Inspired by rustic village cooking, it’s golden, crispy on the outside, soft and savory inside — made with just a few simple ingredients you probably already have at home. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast, lunch, or dinner idea, this dish will impress everyone at the table.

✅ Ingredients:

  • 5–6 medium potatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Small onion (finely chopped)
  • Parsley (chopped)
  • Dill (chopped)
  • 40g cheese (grated, optional)
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2–3 tablespoons flour
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Butter (optional, for extra richness)
  • Bacon (a few slices, optional)

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Grate and Squeeze the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and grate them finely. Squeeze out as much moisture as possible using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. This helps achieve crispiness.

Step 2: Mix With Flavorful Add-ins
In a large bowl, combine grated potatoes with minced garlic, chopped onions, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper. Add cornstarch and flour to help bind everything together.

Step 3: Optional – Add Cheese or Bacon
For extra flavor, stir in a sprinkle of grated cheese. You can also top each patty with a small piece of bacon before frying, or mix in cooked bacon bits.

Step 4: Shape into Patties
Using your hands or a spoon, shape the mixture into small to medium-sized patties.

Step 5: Fry Until Golden Brown
Heat vegetable oil (and a bit of butter if desired) in a skillet. Fry the patties on medium heat for about 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

Step 6: Bake Option (Healthy Alternative)
Alternatively, place the patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Lightly brush with oil and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes , flipping halfway through.

Step 7: Serve & Enjoy
Serve warm as a standalone snack or with a dollop of sour cream, Greek yogurt, or mustard. These are great with a side salad too!

📝 Tips:

  • Use leftover mashed potatoes to save time.
  • Substitute cornstarch with breadcrumbs for a different texture.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in a pan or oven.
  • Make a big batch and freeze uncooked patties for future use.
