- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup (120ml) whole milk
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder + 2 tbsp hot water (for chocolate batter)
Optional Glaze:
- ½ cup (60g) powdered sugar
- 1-2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
1️⃣ Prep & Mix:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy (3-4 mins). Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
2️⃣ Marble the Batter:
- Alternate adding flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture.
- Divide batter in half. Mix cocoa powder + hot water into one portion.
- Layer & Swirl: Spoon vanilla and chocolate batter alternately into the pan. Run a knife through to create swirls.
3️⃣ Bake & Cool:
- Bake 50-55 mins until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in pan 10 mins, then transfer to a wire rack.
4️⃣ Glaze (Optional):
- Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cake.
Baker’s Tip: For deeper swirls, don’t overmix—just 3-4 knife passes!
